Early 2012, Northern Mali is occupied by different armed groups, demanding a division of the country and the introduction of Sharia rule. In Gao, the historic capital of the North, young residents organise resistance groups against the occupiers, trying to protect their families and liberate the city. The filmmaker meets some of those who took on this fierce and forgotten fight and shows the heroic resistance. Furthermore he acknowledges and appreciates the engagement of the citizens of Gao and all communities throughout Northern Mali during the occupation.
